We’ve turned some of the classic story types into questions to help you spot the good stories in your business. Ask these questions once a month and you’ll be well on your way to getting press coverage in 2018.

1. Do you have a good customer case?

There are just some customers that you remember better than others. Some always have a witty remark and others just have a really good business case.

Write them down and think about whether the customer uses your solution in a fun or different way. Customer cases are often one of the first things a journalist asks for when they want to write about a company.

2. Do you have surprising data?

Do you have data lying around that you can extract new information from? Or have you recently conducted a study with startling results?

Numbers can be turned into stories if, for example, they reveal a surprising or funny difference between your customer groups. Perhaps you can see that your customers in Jutland are more digital than customers from Funen. Or that the Jutlanders use more toilet paper than the Funeners.

Numbers can also reflect interesting developments in your industry – or in Denmark in general.

3. Is new legislation on the way?

Is there legislation coming that could impact your business, the industry or your customers?

Think about the consequences and opportunities that the new legislation brings and see if they have been covered in the media. You may be the first to provide useful information and input to journalists.

4. Do you see a trend?

Do you see a trend in society or in your industry that no one else is talking about? You are an expert in your field and may have knowledge that is interesting to others.

Think about whether your customers’ behavior and expectations have changed. Have new needs emerged in your target audience, or have you noticed something completely different that would be exciting for the right medium?

5. Is there anything that surprises your family?

When it comes to finding a good press story, it’s good to look at yourself from the outside. What surprises your partner, family and friends when you talk about your job?

You may have a technology that blows most people away, or a well-known investor joins the team.

Write it down

Don’t miss a great press opportunity in your business. Write the five questions on a post-it and stick it on your desk, computer or bulletin board – anywhere as long as you remember them.
